Using Fish Bait Note: This is a work in progress. The following information may be incomplete, inaccurate, or incorrect. Rare Fish Bait can be used by: Placing some in Fish trap.png The Fish Trap, and waiting a day Tossing some into a body of water Fish bait comes from terrariums which can either be used in the fish trap or in any body of water.
How to Get Started
You need a set of four bugs (common, uncommon, etc) in each terrarium to create bait and pheromones. These terrariums unlock with a story quest. I suggest catch as many bugs and bees as you can.
Bait and pheromones are dice. Get a bunch of terrariums and apiaries, and you can grow dozens of dice. One (1) apiary/terrarium of each time isn't going to get you a lot.
I kept at least 3 of each type of terrarium to build up a good stockpile of pheromones and bait. One individual bait just spawns fish. That's it, that's all it does.
Important Requirements
The fish it spawns will still have the exact same probability to spawn a fish in that weather, in that season, in that body of water. So if a fish is 10% to appear with bait, in the summer, in the rain, in the river, it's still the same 10% to appear competing with everything else in the summer, in the rain, in the river. So the trick is to just stockpile a ton of bait and go on a good, big frenzy.
It's the same with fish traps. Fish trap has its own drop pool that everything in that pool is competing with. Unlike just bait directly on the water, you've only got your one per day though.
So eventually you will get what you're after, it's just going to take a while for the dice to all come up sixes. But unlike baiting the water, I'm pretty sure you can reload the day if you didn't get what you wanted from the trap and really want to finish it already. Mist spots are the same way, I had to reroll the day a few times to finally get the last mist artifact and not the 10,000th cloud bed.
